Established church in the Grand Rapids area is searching for a full time Facilities/Building Manager.  Working with staff and church council, you would be responsible for the overall operation of the physical building and grounds. Along with maintaining the building with weekly and daily tasks, you’ll be helping with event setup and takedown.  Overarching duties would include monitoring facility systems such as the fire, security, elevators, pumps, roof, HVAC and handling vendor contracts.  You’ll be supervising kitchen operations and general ground maintenance including walkway snow removal keeping paths safely clear.  Working independently, you will find satisfaction surrounded in a beautiful setting and knowing the staff and spiritual community appreciates your efforts.


30 Hour/Week Building Manager Job Description: Maintain Building

• Monitor and inspect building conditions

• Unlock and open building daily at 7:00am

• Check that everything is in order in building

• Monitor alarms/security system/respond to building alarms

• Maintain all required inspections for the facility—fire system, security, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, sump pumps, elevator

• Check building mechanicals

• Manage building lighting

• Adjust any heating and cooling issues the staff may have Weekly and Daily Tasks

• Upkeep of Sanctuary and Narthex

• Weekly check of needed supplies-cleaning, paper products, etc.

• Weekly watering and care of indoor plants

• Setup for Sunday Service, Weddings, Bible Studies, Memorials, Church Candles, Events

• Setup and tear down for events, including weddings and funerals when needed Supervise Assistant Sunday morning Custodian and Cleaning Service

• Create Daily Coverage and necessary job schedule

• Complete payroll time sheets for Assistant Sunday Custodian

• Sign and timely submit payroll time sheets and turn in billing for cleaning service

• Act as a liaison between senior pastor, house and grounds committee and the custodians Act as a liaison to Preschool Director for all cleaning, repair or facility problems. Supervise kitchen operations

• Cleaning and organization

• Equipment needs and repairs

• Run dishwasher and unload dishes to cupboards

• Maintain freezer and refrigerator cleaning and ice machine

• Maintain necessary supplies-Pantry, paper products and cleaning



• Parking lot lighting

• Snow removal for church and preschool walkways

• Fill salt bins for ice melt on walkways

• Monitor any issues with lawn care, snowplow service, landscaping, pest control inside and outside, and parking lot


Repairs and Maintenance

• Inform Pastor of any changes or concerns that need to be addressed, as well as the Building and Grounds committee

• Work as church project manager for projects

• Meet with contractors and inform them of necessary actions

• Monitor and approve invoices for building and grounds

• Supervise contractors and check their completed work and address any issues or questions they may have.

• Order cleaning supplies from Action Chemical

• Order linens from Valley City Linens
