Billing Specialist Job Summary:

A private faith-based university in Grand Rapids, MI is hiring for a Billing Specialist to join their growing team! This role is a fast-paced, student-focused position requiring strong billing management, clear communication on financial aid and payment plans, and effective collaboration with university departments. This is a long-term opportunity with a renowned university local to Grand Rapids, MI.

Billing Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage billing processes, monitor outstanding balances, registration changes, and student account adjustments
  • Ensure timely distribution of tuition statements and third-party billing
  • Serve as the main point of contact for prospective and current students, advising on financial aid, billing, payment plans, and institutional policies
  • Explain Title IV, state, and institutional regulations to students
  • Work with third-party vendors to facilitate payment plan options
  • Develop and manage communication plans via print, email, text, and phone for billing, payment plans, overdue balances, and financial aid holds
  • Work with University departments to streamline processes, refine administrative procedures, and support financial aid system setup

Schedule and Pay:

  • 1st shift, 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday
  • $17-$18/HR based on experience

Billing Specialist Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate beliefs that align with the core mission and values of the university
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Adheres to confidentiality standards required
  • 2+ years’ professional experience in administration, communication, business, public policy; higher education experience preferred
  • Experience in federal financial aid, including use of automated financial aid systems
  • Detail-oriented and goal-oriented
  • Excellent communicator with a desire to support people as they fund their educational investment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer systems and/or software
  • Strong collaboration, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Experience working with students and/or clients from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and abilities
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in financial aid and student account management
