Position Description
Position Title: Band Teacher, Part-time, Grades 5-6
Annual Commitment: School Calendar
Reports To: School Principal
Effective Date: August, 2021
Primary Function
Provide a Christ-centered educational atmosphere in which Grades 5-6 beginning band students will move toward fulfillment of their potential as band performers who appreciate and enjoy music.
Responsibilities (expected but not limited to)
1. Plan and implement the beginning band program for students in Grades 5-6.
2. Revise plans based on student needs.
3. Establish and maintain a positive learning environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
4. Communicate, in understandable terms, individual student progress knowledgeably and responsibly to the student, parents/guardians, and professional colleagues who need access to the information.
5. Assist in enforcement of school rules, administrative regulations, and school board policies.
6. Perform at the Grade 6 graduation in June.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of child development, especially characteristics of students in Grades 5-6
2. Knowledge of learning styles of students in Grades 5-6
3. Skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles
4. Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents/guardians, and others
5. Ability to plan and implement appropriate activities for maximum effectiveness
6. Ability to assess student achievement levels effectively, analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement
7. Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn
8. Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators, and others
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution
· Valid certification in the subject area(s) or grade level(s) for which hired
· Demonstrated successful ability, preferably in a Christian school, to teach students well at the grade level(s) and/or subject area(s) for which hired
