We are seeking candidates for an opportunity as our Accounts Payable Accountant  at our Mission Support Center located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Accounts Payable Accountant is responsible for creating financial transactions and generating financial reports. The creation of financial transactions includes posting information to the accounting software from source documents such as invoices and credit card receipts. The Accounts Payable Accountant is also responsible for reconciling accounts and tracking expenses to particular projects or initiatives for easy reporting and to ensure accuracy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs the accounts payable function which includes matching purchase orders, expense request approvals, travel request, or other supporting documents/approvals with invoices and inputting invoices into the accounting software system, as well as setting up new vendors and their banking information.
  2. Interacts with vendors and co-workers as necessary to ensure a smooth flow of activity and accurate recording.
  3. Processes and oversees the staff expense reporting system, the setup and utilization of corporate credit cards, and communication with the credit card company.
  4. Facilitate expense report processes and train new staff in the expense report system.
  5. Oversees and prepares reports on project accounting, to include particular CURE initiatives or projects, department budget, construction projects, and other projects that require discrete tracking.
  6. Organizes and maintains accounting records in an accurate and timely manner.
  7. Maintains confidentiality of records.
  8. Assists in other duties as needed by the department.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance, or equivalent work experience.
  2. Minimal working experience is required. 
  3. Experience in bookkeeping or general ledger accounting preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  2. Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Google Suite.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Ability to build and maintain relationships with others in the organization as well as with vendors.
  5. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  6. Strong desire to work hard and with excellence.
