SUMMARY:
Michigan Sports Academies (MSA) is offering an exciting opportunity for a meticulous and proactive Accounting Supervisor to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys hands-on involvement in financial management while contributing to the growth of a youth club sports organization. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional team members while managing a small team to support the accounting function and help the drive organizational success. Your expertise with general ledger, journal entries, balance sheets, and reconciliations will be pivotal in the success of the accounting function within MSA.
LOCATION AND HOURS:
- Office is located in Grand Rapids with hours of operation from 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Local travel around the Grand Rapids area with occasional travel to Muskegon and Holland required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the general ledger, prepare journal entries, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to address accounting inquiries and perform financial analyses to assist the Financial Analyst and Club Operations Director.
- Guide and support staff in daily tasks, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring continuous improvement in processes surrounding accounts receivable, accounts payable, and check deposits.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and prepare financial reports.
- Lead year-end activities such as journal entry adjustments and tax preparations request items, maintaining compliance with accounting standards.
- Process biweekly payroll ensuring accurate and timely payments.
- Assist in annual vendor review and 1099 reporting and filing process.
- Review and reconcile the company expense report system ensuring accurate coding of company credit card transactions and documentation for financial records.
- Implement productivity and quality standards in accounting processes ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Contribute to process development and improvement with future opportunities in treasury management and budget preparation assistance.
- Prepare additional reports and perform special projects as assigned.
ELEMENTS OF SUCCESS:
- 4+ years of experience in accounting with a solid foundation in general ledger management, account reconciliation, and financial analysis and reporting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP standards and financial reporting practices.
- Experience supervising a small team and managing high-volume transactional processes.
- Proficiency with accounting software, advanced spreadsheet skills, and familiarity with expense management systems.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively adapting to a dynamic environment.
- Effective communication skills for working across teams and supporting development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA credentials preferred.
