we are not alone today
we are caught up in your arms where you carry us away
we have broken hearts to mend
we are open wide before your eyes for you see beneath our skin
God of all the wounded fallen men
we are yours, we are yours
God of all the humble and broken
we are yours, we are yours
we were helpless children lost in our own sin
we have nothing more to offer than the breath within our chest
we cry out to you with longing for your grace
we need hearts that know your voice and eyes that see your face
you are faithful to the ones who call your name
and you are faithful even when we've brought you shame
you bend down to lift the humble off their knees
you bear the scars from all the wars
we've lost to our great need
A note from Rick Hopkins
This is a song I wrote out of a desire to connect not only with God, but with those worshiping with me.
There are times when I am on stage leading worship and you can tell that the congregation as a whole has had a rough week. There is an awkward silence that settles in on the crowd. You can look at the faces and tell that church is the last place they want to be at that moment. Work was rough that week, family struggles, marital tension, financial issues. All these things come into our lives and weigh us down.
I wanted to write a song that would address all this brokenness, and allows us as a congregation to give it all up to God and let him guide us through it.
A note from Chris Walker
There’s something amazingly refreshing about being honest. To sing honestly about how we’re broken and tired is actually very freeing.
What’s even more amazing about Rick’s song is the fact that within the same breath, we can also cling to the fact that we belong to God. He claimed us as his, even though we don’t have it all together.
And Rick’s God-given anointing as a vocalist helps me really believe it.
