when I am weak Lord you are strong (you are my strength)
when I am helpless you are near (you are my hope)
when I am weary Lord you lift me up (you give me life)
and your love heals my wounded soul
i feel your love shining on me
let the people rejoice, let the heavens declare
proclaiming the name of Jesus everywhere
it's you - your love can heal the broken
let our voices ring out, let the praises resound
giving you glory Lord we lift our song to you
your love can heal the broken
you are hope for the hopeless
you are life for the lifeless
you are rest for the weary
you are Lord God almighty
A note from Jon Hodge
As with several of the songs I've written, the lyrics for this one just seemed to come to me. I didn't understand the significance of these lyrics until several months after writing them.
When i was in the hospital the night before having heart surgery, the words "when i am weak Lord you are strong, when I am helpless you are near" came to my mind. I found great encouragement in the fact that God could in fact heal what was broken, that he was my strength, and that his love provided hope even in the midst of uncertain situations. The song has had a special meaning to me since then, and I hope that it will speak to others as well.

These are such foundational truths that they are easy to sing through without catching. Jon’s melody, however, requires a certain amount of pure gut in the chorus. You can’t simply declare these truths... you must shout them. Let the people rejoice!
By no means are you allowed to sing this melody softly. If people danced for such small occasions as receiving the ability to use their legs, then how much more should we rattle the foundations of the earth with this amazing truth: that God’s love can heal the broken!

A few statements on personnel: I just have to say that Jill and Rick sound amazing together. They really compliment each other, and Jon’s song, remarkably well. Their voices almost bounce off of each other on these echoes; the end of one phrase launches the next.
But honestly my favorite part of bringing this song to life is Gary’s percussion. It’s subtle – you don’t pay attention to it unless you’re listen for details. But there’s a lot of life in this tune because Gary is hitting stuff.
