The Story Behind the Tune


A note from Andy Ferris
Scripture is full of images surrounding the Word of God.  From the start it is this word that calls our world into existence and throughout the rest of the story this word plays many different roles, comforting, warning, encouraging, correcting, instructing… finally reaching its climax with the arrival of Christ, the living, breathing word of God. 

With this song I wanted to have a corporate declaration of intent, so to speak.  Each week Christians around the world gather to open the scriptures together and I know that I’m guilty of forgetting the power of the word. 

This song is a reminder of that life giving power, and a request for the Word to continually work in our lives.

A note from Chris Walker
So, I’ve been working with Andy for 10 years now, writing songs, ripping each other’s ideas apart to make them better, trying to one-up each other in the studio.  It’s been an amazing friendship and musical partnership (and I’m benefitting the most out of it). 

I tell you this so you understand my position of authority in making the following statement: This is the best song that Ferris has ever written.  I’m so thankful he shared it with us.  It’s simply beautiful; there is such a deep longing to hear from God, but such an underlying hope in knowing that he’ll speak. 

Listen to this one with your eyes closed before you walk into church.  Sit in your car, take a breath, close your eyes, and listen.  It’ll change the reason you come to be with the people of God….it’s that powerful and it’s Andy’s best tune.

A note from Rick Hopkins
For quite some time I have been in the come and go phase; feeling as if God was right next to me and then feeling as though He had left me forever. At the time Andy asked me to sing this song for the recording I felt like God was very far away. But even as I sang the words, they were speaking to my heart. I needed God to speak once again to me.  I wanted to hear that beautiful voice that had called to me. I hear it through this song's lyrics. I am grateful that I was able to sing it for the recording.
