you stand before the void
you speak into the darkness
you voice things into being and they are there for the first time
now creation lifts its voice
the oceans roar with praises
the trees lift up their branches
up to the king of all creation
and they sing...
you will reign forever
you are reigning in us now,
you're reigning in us now, reigning in us now
you stand before the void of a people that are broken
you step into skin and you are here - the word become flesh
now my God is on the cross bringing healing to the broken
bringing life where death has lingered.
bringing peace where strife has been king
and we sing…
your kingdom's come, your kingdom's near
your kingdom's forever, your kingdom's here
A note from Matt Bell
This song is really a product of spilling onto a page with a pen and guitar in hand. I didn't sit down with the intent to write this song, but found myself capturing images on a page that left me with a sense of wonder. Images of creation, brokenness, redemption, and ultimately, a forever kingdom with only one worthy king.
A note from Chris Walker
When we read the creation story, we see how God spoke light into darkness, from a void he created this ridiculously amazing world. God seems to have made a habit out of speaking light into the dark places.
You can follow that theme throughout scripture. The most obvious place is when Jesus stepped into the void as “the Word become flesh”. I’ve always loved the way that Matt captured this image in this song, and uses it as a reminder that the Lord reigns, His kingdom is a kingdom of light conquering darkness, and it’s around us even now.
