Lord, you have taught us that there is none righteous
and from this, we are not exempt
we’ve hearts that are dirty and minds yet unclean
and Lord, we gather to confess
for if we confess our sins
you will be faithful to forgive
so we cry for mercy
to wash over us and purify
so we cry for mercy
to wash over us and purify our hearts and minds
A note from Chris Walker
We sing a song called “Sanctify Me” that was written by my friend Ryan Wilkins. It’s a great expression of personal confession, cleansing, and prayer to be made holy like God is holy.
As I was falling in love with this song, though, I was discovering the beauty of these expressions in a communal setting. What if we as a group of people – not just as a bunch of individuals, but as a group that is united as one in Christ – took a few moments to confess? What if we had a communal experience that was similar the personal one found in “Sanctify Me”?
This song just sort of forced its way out of me from there.
